Dating to the fourth century BCE, the 2500 bamboo slips housed at Tsinghua University rank amongst the most significant global manuscript collections. Containing texts that reflect on a wide range of philosophical, mathematical, musical, historical, and classical concerns, the collection impacts the study of Early China like no other. Our bilingual two-day workshop—co-hosted by the Centre for Manuscript and Text Cultures (CMTC) at The Queen’s College in the University of Oxford, and the Research and Conservation Center for Unearthed Texts at Tsinghua University (清华大学出土文献研究与保护中心)—seeks to place these and related manuscripts into a global perspective while addressing pressing codicological, philological, and philosophical questions. By bringing European scholars of early Chinese manuscript cultures into conversation with Chinese specialists, the workshop will showcase cuting-edge research and offer a platform for critical engagement with work-in-progress.

Day One features English-language presentations and bilingual discussions. Panels will explore how texts from the collection or related materials intervene in broader debates and scholarship on issues of textuality, materiality and strategies of meaning construction.

Day Two features Chinese-language presentations and bilingual discussions. Panels will focus on specialised research questions, with an emphasis on palaeographical and material-philological matters

This structure is designed to encourage Oxford-based and international researchers from unrelated manuscript cultures to participate, enriching the dialogue with diverse, interdisciplinary perspectives.

出土简帛的文本与思想：清华简及其延伸

清华大学入藏的约 2500 枚战国竹简（约公元前四世纪）是全球最重要的写本收藏之 一。这批典籍涵盖了哲学、数学、乐律、历史及经学等广泛领域，对早期中国研究产 生了前所未有的深远影响。

本次为期两天的双语研讨会由牛津大学皇后学院写本与文本文化中心 (CMTC) 与清华大 学出土文献研究与保护中心联合举办。研讨会旨在将这些及相关写本置于全球视野 下，探讨亟待解决的书物学（Codicology）、文献学和语文学（Philology）及哲学问 题。通过促成欧洲的早期中国写本文化学者与中国专家之间的对话，本活动将展示前 沿研究成果，并为尚在进行中的学术工作提供一个批判性交流的平台。

第一日程：以英文报告为主，进行双语讨论。各小组将探讨清华简和类似文本 如何介入关于文本性（Textuality）、物质性（Materiality）以及意义构建策略的 更广泛学术辩论。

第二日程：以中文报告为主，进行双语讨论。各小组将聚焦于专门的研究课 题，重点关注古文字学和物质文献学（Material-philological）相关问题。
