Provenance Unknown: Michaelmas Term 2024 Lecture
29 October 2024
The Centre hosts the following lecture: Christopher Whittick,‘“I found it in a skip” – provenance and priorities in British archives’
In a career in county archives spanning 44 years, Christopher Whittick has had plenty of opportunity both to observe and deduce the often tortuous and occasionally dubious routes by which documents eventually reach their destination in an archive repository. These journeys will be examined, and placed in the context of the immediate concerns and priorities of archivists in the Britain of today, and of the wider question of the debatable ownership of the past.
