Approaching Manuscripts: Perspectives from Arabic and and Chinese Traditions

As part of the 2025–26 Graduate Training Seminar series (Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies), this session brings into conversation scholars working on Arabic and Chinese manuscript traditions in order to reflect comparatively on the study of manuscripts across cultural and disciplinary boundaries. Rather than focusing on a single manuscript culture, the seminar is designed as an open discussion on methods, materials, and scholarly approaches to manuscripts, encouraging participants to think comparatively about codicology, textuality, materiality, and the transmission of knowledge.
